When a Hong Kong company is incorporated, they receive a Certificate of Incorporation from the Companies Registry and Business Registration Certificate from the Inland Revenue Department.
UBI is an unique number to identify each legal entity. Many countries use this system. It helps the exchange of data between government departments.
In Hong Kong the UBI is issued by the Inland Revenue Department. It is shown as the first 8 digits on the Business Registration certificate.
Starting 27th December 2023, the Company Number (CR Number) issued on the Certificate of Incorporation will be replaced by the UBI.
